A fertile place for farming and dairy products, Meridian is located in the southwest part of Idaho, approximately 10 miles west of Boise, the capital of Idaho. The city treasures its past along with its present and looks forward to its future. Meridian, acity in the Ada County has witnessed extensive growth over the years because of the increase in the population. The community was named after the local building known as the Meridian Lodge of the Odd Fellows. People of the city of Meridian work mainly in the government, finance, business, professional, and technical fields. It houses the corporate headquarters of United Heritage, Western Electronics, and Arnold Machinery.
Education has also gained tremendous importance in the city which houses universities like the University of Phoenix along with the neighboring Boise State University, Northwest Nazarene College, and Albertson College of Idaho. Public schools in the Meridian School District and Cole Valley Christian a private school provide excellent primary and secondary educational opportunities. There are also vocational and technical schools that offer numerous educational possibilities.
Meridian is a family oriented community with many youth oriented activities including Boys and Girls Club, PAL Soccer, Meridian Youth Baseball and Optimist Football.
Once a desert area, Meridian is now a cultivable land with a series of canals transferring snowmelt in Boise River Reservoirs to the farm fields. Although Meridian experiences four distinct seasons, moderate temperatures and low humidity make for pleasant outdoor living throughout most of the year.
